Used Eye Glasses Donation
There are millions of people around the world with uncorrected refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism) according to The World Health Organization. The majority of these vision impairments can be diagnosed quickly and corrected with corrective lenses. Clear vision leads to a better education, healthier development, and a better quality of life for children. The result is greater economic strength and employment opportunities for adults. For seniors it means less dependence on others.
Markham Elite Lions Club collects used eyeglasses each year to address the need for glasses. MELC collects new and used reading, single vision, bifocal, safety, children’s glasses and both prescription and non-prescription sunglasses. We also now collect broken glasses and loose lenses. We have partners to our recycling centres who will recover metals and other components from broken glasses. They are sent to Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centres (LERC). Once the CLERC has prepared the glasses they are given to qualified missions delivering glasses to the needy around the world.

Aim of the Vision Screening is to Reach out to communities to save the Sight.
The majority of visual impairments can be prevented or cured. Prevention begins with awareness. The first is create the awareness in your community regarding vision to save the sight. The second is early detection through vision screening. When early detection is made, professional treatment is provided, and sight can be improved or restored.
